Sandbar Willow
(salix interior)

Sandbar willow is a small shrub commonly found along lakeshores and wetland areas.

The Sandbar willow has a low growth height, a high flood tolerance, and high stem density making it ideal for streambank stabilization.

Wildlife Food & Cover:Good cover for birds and small animals, particularly nesting, perching, loafing. Hoofed browsers may feed on leaves and twigs.

Flowers: Fuzzy yellowish-white catkins on new leafy branches in spring

Fruit:Brown and white capsule, seed attached to cottony hair

Ecosystem: Alder Swamp, Willow Swamp
