Since 1996, the Anoka Conservation District (ACD), in partnership with local cities and watershed districts, has regularly monitored the water levels of wetlands located throughout Anoka County. This reference wetland data is useful for identifying current and historic water elevation trends in Anoka County.

Wetland monitoring research shows that most Anoka County wetlands have water levels that rapidly fluctuate in response to seasonal water table levels. Especially in areas of sandy soils, water levels in Anoka County wetlands can vary greatly depending on time of year and seasonal precipitation. For example, in a normal precipitation year, many wetlands display seasonal hydrology that is near the surface in the spring, and then drops 40 inches or more later in the growing season. Annual wetland monitoring results are summarized as part of the Water Almanac for Anoka County. Call the ACD office 763-434-2030 if you are interested in obtaining the most current wetland monitoring data.
