Long-term lake level records provide valuable information for resource management, regulatory decision-making, shoreline development planning, and the evaluation of potential impacts on lake hydrology. These records can also help identify long-term trends and distinguish natural water level fluctuations from possible human-induced changes.
ACD operates a lake level monitoring program on 23 lakes throughout Anoka County. A permanent staff gauge is installed on each lake and surveyed to ensure that water level readings correspond to a consistent sea-level elevation reference. Volunteer monitors read the gauges weekly and report the measurements to ACD.
ACD submits all lake level data to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR), where it becomes part of the state's long-term lake monitoring record. Lake level data, historical trends, and additional lake information are available through the MNDNR's LakeFinder tool.
