ACD monitors water quality in streams, rivers, tributaries, and drainage ditches throughout Anoka County. This program helps identify and diagnose water quality concerns that may affect recreation, public health, aquatic life, and wildlife habitat. Monitoring efforts focus on streams that contribute to major recreational lakes and rivers, where water quality can have broader impacts on downstream resources.
Water quality data are used to track environmental conditions, identify pollution sources, evaluate trends, and support watershed management and restoration efforts.
The following parameters are routinely measured:
- pH
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
- Turbidity
- Conductivity
- Temperature
- Salinity
- Total Phosphorus (TP)
- Chloride
- Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
Field measurements are collected using a multi-parameter water quality sonde, while water samples are collected and analyzed by an independent certified laboratory. Together, these data provide a comprehensive assessment of stream health and water quality conditions throughout the county.
Funding for this work is provided through partnerships with watershed districts, watershed management organizations, grant programs, and in-kind support from ACD.
While this website provides access to monitoring results and program information, additional water quality data may be available through state agencies, watershed organizations, and other monitoring programs.
